Milwaukee Ranked in top 10 Best U.S. Cities to Spend the Fourth of July

MILWAUKEE -- According to a national study conducted by a consumer spending group, Milwaukee is the 8th best city in the U.S. to spend the Fourth of July in.

But when it comes to "Attractions and Activities," Madison ranks two places higher on this list - and 11th when taking into account all activities.

With Independence Day festivities in mind, WalletHub compared the 100 largest U.S. cities based on how well they balance holiday cost and fun.

They did so using 16 different metrics such as the duration of fireworks shows, average gas prices, weather forecasts and more.

According to a report published by FOX 6 today,

Here’s how Milwaukee’s Fourth of July celebrations ranked — with 1 being the best, and 50 being average:

  • 15th – Average beer and wine prices
  • 22nd – Walkability
  • 1st – Legality of fireworks
  • 53rd – Accommodations and food service establishments per capita
  • 20th – Fourth of July weather forecast
  • 20th – Fourth of July popularity of the city
  • 2nd – Duration of fireworks show

American households will spend an average of $370.75 on Fourth of July 2016 festivities, up 7% from 2015. That lofty figure includes more than $1 billion in beer, 150 million hot dogs, 700 million pounds of chicken and 190 million pounds of beef.
