Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke is 'Person of the Year'

Milwaukee, WI – Sheriff David A. Clarke Jr. has been selected to receive the 2016 Person of the Year Award from the New York City Patrolmen’s Benevolent Association (NYC PBA). He will travel to New York to accept the award.

The NYC PBA is the largest municipal police union in the nation and represents nearly 50,000 active and retired NYC police officers. It is also the largest and the oldest of the NYPD’s five police unions, each of which represents NYPD members of a specific rank, up to the rank of Inspector.

In 2016, Sheriff Clarke has also received the Law Enforcement Leader of the Year Award from the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, New Jersey Blue NOW magazine award for “leadership and support to our nation’s law enforcement community,” the Sheriff Buford Pusser National Law Enforcement Officer of the Year Award, and the New York Oath Keepers Leadership Award.

Sheriff Clarke said, “I don’t do this for awards, however, when an organization of my peers recognizes my commitment to defending the institution of policing in America, and to the nearly 900,000 police officers nationwide who are on the front lines every day making their communities a safer place for all people, this award takes on special meaning.

I am humbled, yet honored, to receive this designation from the largest union of police officers, both active and retired, of America’s iconic law enforcement agency – the NYPD. I accept this award on behalf of every law enforcement officer who serves and protects their community with integrity, honor, courage and commitment throughout the United States.”
