New Oak Creek Farmer's Market Aims To Be Area's Best
Oak Creek's farmers market is said to combine the best of a classic farmer's market within a community gathering space. Learn all about it:
OAK CREEK, WI — The new Oak Creek Farmers Market is now underway and is the newest addition to Drexel Town Square.
The farmers market, which started on June 2 and continues through October 22, is held Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Almost one year in planning, Oak Creek's farmers market is said to combine the best of a classic farmer’s market within a community gathering space.
“We are creating an event that city residents and those from surrounding communities will want to be a part of every Saturday,” said Dawn Carrillo, Farmers Market Manager.

Staples of the market include vine-ripened produce, eggs, meats, honey and flowers. Seasonal items, such as strawberries, apples and sweet corn, will come to the market at their peak of freshness. Carrillo said more than 30 vendors will be featured each week.
Location of the market within the town square site was carefully planned to provide patrons with access to an array of other food and beverage options. It will be in proximity to Pizza Man, Cubanitas and Bel Air Cantina restaurants; Gi Gi’s Cupcakes and Valentine Coffee. All will be open during the market.

“Having our market square restaurants serving food, desserts, fresh brewed coffees, wines and signature cocktails will enhance our market and offer a level of service and convenience that no other market has” Carrillo said. Also unique to the market is a cooking show called ‘Drexel Town Fare’. This one-hour demonstration will show how to cook the seasonally selected items, right from our market vendors. You can follow on social media as Chef Evans picks the produce at the farm, and cooks it on the square, providing samples to the audi- ence. “What market can you see where your food is grown, meet the farmers who grew or raised it, and how to prepare it by a local chef?” Carrillo explains.
Other unique features of the Oak Creek Farmers Market will include:
• A rotating schedule of three artisans stalls. Each week different craftspeople will offer handmade creations.
• Live music will fill the area, something new every Saturday.
Drexel Town Square’s permanent amenities include a children’s splash pad and new indoor bathrooms.
With the anticipated popularity of the market, Carrillo said event organizers are working out parking logistics
including using the nearby Meijer lot and the Froedtert Health Center parking structure. There are more than 2,000 spots less than 2 blocks from the square in all directions. Bicycle racks are available around the square and the event is accessible by Milwaukee County Transit System bus.
“We are developing what we are confident will be the best farmer’s market in the area,” Carrillo said. In addition to Carrillo, market committee members are Katie Henschel, Gina Goodwin, Derek Mlaker and David Kozlowski.
