New Oak Creek Rule Aims To Curtail High School Vaping Epidemic

The Oak Creek Franklin Joint School District has expressed concern regarding an increase of e-cigarette product use among students.

OAK CREEK, WI -- Citing a need to curtail Oak Creek High School students from vaping on and off campus - among other concerns in the community - the Oak Creek Common Council passed an ordinance that treats e-cigarettes along the same lines as regular cigarettes.

"We're here to serve the greater majority and right now the greater majority is demanding a change to the ordinance,” Oak Creek Mayor Dan Bukiewicz said in a CBS 58 report.

According to Common Council documents he intent of the updated ordinance is to prohibit the use of electronic smoking devices, commonly known as e-cigarettes, in all areas where the smoking of traditional cigarettes and tobacco products is already prohibited.
