Oak Creek Blockbuster A Shell Of Its Former Self

Business shuttered as part of nationwide downsizing.

If not for the drop-slot (which is now covered up with duct tape) in front of the building, it would be tough to tell that a Blockbuster once occupied the space at 8645 S. Howell Ave.

As the Journal Sentinel reported Tuesday, only three Blockbuster stores in the Milwaukee area will remain open once the company is out of bankruptcy. The store's new parent company will be Dish Network Corp, which plans to close more than 1,000 stores across the country, according to the report.

The Oak Creek Blockbuster, however, wasted no time closing its doors. Signs are gone, the interior is cleared out and the doors are locked.

What's next for that building isn't known. An official with the city's community development department did not return a phone call, and the owner of the building, Joebec LLC, could not be reached.
