Their show, Crazy for You, is a much-loved award-winning musical written by Ken Ludwig with music by George and Ira Gershwin. Crazy for You is a romantic comedy in which Bobby Child, a young banker from New York, is sent to foreclose on a dilapidated theatre in Nevada. But when he arrives in the rundown town, Bobby instead falls for the theatre owner’s daughter, the spunky Polly Baker. He commits to winning her heart at all costs – whether through showmanship or impersonating a famed New York Director – and saving the theatre in the process. The show features family-friendly, memorable Gershwin tunes and impressive tap dance numbers.
The plot’s celebration of theatre is especially fitting given the long struggle for Oak Creek’s own performing arts space. After decades of failed referendums and cramped performances, the new PAEC recently finished construction, allowing the cast and crew of 85 students ample room to showcase their talents for eager audiences of up to 1000 – a far cry from the 168-seat capacity of the hallowed Little Theater.
