Oak Creek Man Says He Was Victim Of Google Pay Scam: Report

The man told police that he was scammed out of $9,500 over a two-day period.

OAK CREEK, WI -- An elderly man from Oak Creek says he was scammed out of more than $9,000 in a telephone scam involving Google Pay credit cards.

According to police logs, officers spoke with the 75-year-old man during the afternoon of May 13 over the incident.

The man told police that he was scammed out of $9,500 over a two-day period beginning on May 8, when he was contacted by a business and was convinced to ship the sum of money via FedEx to an address in Hacienda Heights, California, police said.

According to police, the man told investigators that he received $2,500 in Google Pay cards and provided the scammer with the ID numbers on the back of the cards via a telephone call.

Police logs state that the man realized he had been scammed out of the money, which led him to contact authorities.
