Oak Creek Public Library 'Parent Workshops'

New for 2015 at the Oak Creek Public Library:
‘Parent Workshops’ presented by Kohl’s Building Blocks & Penfield Children’s Center. There will be a different topic discussed the 4th Saturday of each month (January-April) 1:30-2:30 p.m.

Workshops will increase the knowledge of child development , manage expectations, show how to advocate for children and how to access community resources. They are 45 minutes to one hour in length. Child supervision will be provided in the East meeting room, while the workshop will take place in the West meeting room.

February 28th, ‘Speech and Language Development’

This workshop discusses the speech and language development of children and ways to help facilitate language development.

After attending this workshop, participants will be able to:

1. Recognize typical and atypical speech and language development.

2. Recognize the important role routines play in fostering language development.

3. Use information talk in order to facilitate language development.

4. Give examples of how to talk to one’s child during routines in order to facilitate language development.

5. Identify things to avoid when trying to facilitate language development.
