OAK CREEK, WI — Each spring, all seven elementary schools in the Oak Creek-Franklin joint school district join together for the "Big Food Bowl" donation drive. Last year, students at these elementary schools collected more than 21,500 food items. The items are donated to the food pantries at the Salvation Army, All Saints Lutheran Church and the St. Stephen's Family Life Center.
Students across Oak Creek packed two school buses and a dump truck full of donations for these food pantries on the morning of March 23, Oak Creek school district officials said.
Nikki Grudzielanek, the Edgewood PTO president started the drive in 2014. She came up with the idea after noticing her church’s food pantry was running low after the holiday season. Last year the Big Food Bowl collected over 21,500 food items.
