Oak Creek Takes on Marquette in the State Semifinal Game

OAK CREEK - Oak Creek had a banner year in 2016, but when it came to the state championships, it just wasn't meant to be.
The Marquette Hilltoppers ended the Knights' with an 8-3 victory Friday morning in the WIAA state semifinals at Kapco Park.
According to reports from the game by the Journal Sentinel, Oak Creek (31-3) was hoping to reach its first championship game since winning the 2012 crown and held a 3-0 lead in the middle of the third inning. But after allowing a run in each of the third and fourth innings, the Knights watched Marquette score six times in the bottom of the sixth.

Oak Creek made its eighth appearance at the State Tournament and its second in the last three years. The Knights’ four titles are the most of any program, and they are the only program to win three straight championships (2003-2005). They added another title in 2012. The Knights are the 2016 champions in the Greater Metro Conference this year, and they advanced through the South Milwaukee Sectional with a 12-4 win over Muskego in the final.
