Oak Creek Woman Calls Police Over Trapped Woodchuck: Report

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say they told a resident that he'd have to keep a closer eye on his small animal trap after a concerned citizen called police over a trapped woodchuck.

According to Oak Creek police call logs, officers responded to a home on the 9400 block of S. Pennsylvania Ave. at just before 6:30 p.m. on July 22 after a woman walking in the area saw a woodchuck in a trap earlier in the day - and saw it again that evening.

Police said the woman was worried about the animal sitting out all day in the trap. Police spoke with the property owner, who confirmed that it was his trap.

According to police call logs, the officer told the property owner to either promptly dispose of his catch or safely release it. Police told the man that he could not have animals remain in his traps for extended amounts of time due to animal cruelty laws.
