Oak Creek Woman Charged In Connection With Shorewood Hit And Run

A criminal complaint said the woman hit a pedestrian in a crosswalk on Capitol Drive in Shorewood in February, stopped, then drove away.

SHOREWOOD, WI — An Oak Creek woman is facing charges in connection with a hit-and-run that happened in Shorewood in February where a pedestrian was struck by a car on Capitol Drive and Morris Boulevard.

According to the criminal complaint, the hit and run victim told Shorewood police that she was crossing the street in the 3900 block of Morris with the proper signal in a crosswalk when a car struck her. The suspect vehicle, a sedan, was driven by Jaspreet Kaur, 18, of Oak Creek, according to the complaint.

The victim told police she was struck by the passenger side of the car, rolled onto the hood of the car and then landed on the pavement. She sustained bruising, concussion and other injuries from the incident, according to the criminal complaint. Months after the incident, the victim has said she suffers insomnia, migraines, light sensitivity and nausea, according to the complaint.

The victim told Shorewood police that after she was hit the car stopped and two women got out to check on her. The driver was "profusely apologizing." The two women attempted to help the victim and were told to call police, according to the complaint.

According to the complaint, the women then got back in the car and left the scene of the accident.

Kaur was charged last week with hit and run injury in connection with the accident. The charges allege Kaur was operating the vehicle when it caused injury to the victim and that Kaur failed to reasonably investigate what happened and stay on the scene as Wisconsin law requires.

According to the complaint, Kaur admitted to police that she was driving the car. She said she got out to aid the pedestrian but got scared and left when the victim told them to call police, according to the complaint.
