Police Arrest Oak Creek Cell Phone Fraudster: Report

Police in Oak Creek say a Verizon Wireless store employee called authorities about a man who was trying to use a fake ID to buy an iPhone.

OAK CREEK, WI — Police in Oak Creek say they caught up with a cell phone fraudster after a Verizon store called police to report the attempted fraud.

According to Oak Creek police call logs, a Verizon Wireless store employee from the store on W. Town Square Way called police at just before 1 p.m. on Aug. 16 saying that a man later identified as Edden Pena, from Clifton, New Jersey, entered the store and tried buying a $1,300 iPhone XS Max, and that the fraudster tried the same ploy at other stores in the area.

When police contacted the person on Pena's fake ID, he told police he did not authorize Pena to use his information to make purchases.

Police said they obtained a description of Pena, a 19-year-old New Jersey man, and the vehicle he was driving. Police said they found his car, and pulled him over. Pena was arrested on suspicion of identity theft and has been charged with felony ID theft.
