Prosthetic Leg To Blame For IKEA Rollover Crash: Report

Reports indicated that witnesses saw the vehicle travel at a high rate of speed in reverse before it hit a curb at the median.

OAK CREEK, WI -- Police in Oak Creek responded to a one-car accident in the IKEA parking lot just before 4 p.m. on Christmas Eve. When they investigated, the crash turned out to be a mishap of the uncommon variety.

According to police reports, a 73-year-old Milwaukee man was behind the wheel of his car, and was backing out of his parking stall after an IKEA shopping trip when his prosthetic leg became stuck on the vehicle's accelerator.

Reports indicated that witnesses saw the vehicle travel at a high rate of speed in reverse before it hit a curb at the median on IKEA Way. Witnesses said the vehicle flipped over, ending up on its roof.

According to reports, the driver was transported to Froedtert Hospital with serious injuries.
