Public Hearing Set For Water Main Special Assessment

OAK CREEK, WI -- A public hearing will be held on April 16 for members of the public who will be subject to a special assessment related to the installation of a new water main in the city.

The Oak Creek Water and Sewer Utility workers would install about a one-third-mile section of 12-inch water main on W. College Ave. just east of S. 27th Street. Water utility officials said adding the line would improve water quality and provide a second feed for Oak Creek's business district along 27th Street.

Under city ordinances, the special assessment rate would amount to $56 for every linear foot of property that faces their street. Members of the Common Council will hear citizens or attorneys representing them over matters contained in the proposed assessments on Tuesday, April 16, 2019 at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.

Water Utility officials said the utility would initially fund the entire cost of the project, and then would be reimbursed as special assessments are received. The estimated cost of the project is $485,000.

According to city documents, Water Utility officials will prepare a report outlining preliminary plans, a detailed cost estimate, a schedule of proposed assessments to be levied upon properties within the assessment area and will present the report during the public hearing.
