Residents Will Put Together the Pieces at Delphi Meeting

Oak Creek officials say participation is limited due to space.

At Wednesday's , both of those properties will be a game board and development options will be the game pieces.

Those are not metaphors, either. The city's consultant, Graef, is planning “game-board” workshops to allow residents to put together a vision for the future of those properties.

Participants will be able to move around individual development “pieces” - like a City Hall, library or commercial buildings - into many different combinations and arrangements on both sites. That way, the process is simple and direct and numerous ideas can be quickly discussed and evaluated, according to Graef.

Doug Seymour, the city’s director of community development, said the process will help residents visualize how development might take place on those sites.

It will also help Graef and the city prepare site concepts, according to a news release.

However, the exercises may be limited to the first 20 people who RSVP (which can be done by calling (414) 768-6527 or e-mailing mwoolford@oakcreekwi.org).

“Participation at the table(s) is limited due to space, not any desire to limit public participation,” Seymour said in an e-mail.

The city will try to accommodate as many people as they can, he said. City staff will be available to answer questions and take comments.

The meeting will be held from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at City Hall, 8640 S. Howell Ave. Another meeting will be held at 6 p.m.; the table exercise at that session is limited to project stakeholders.

Any decision on the future of each site is still a ways off. However, Graef is expected to for the old Delphi site, showing the property with and without a new City Hall and library.
