South Milwaukee Downtown Market Starts Seventh Season on May 28th
South Milwaukee Downtown Market. An outdoor street market every Thursday 3pm to 7pm May 28th to October 8th.
SOUTH MILWAUKEE – The South Milwaukee Downtown Market returns for its seventh season starting May 28.
“I am amazed that it has been seven seasons,” Downtown Market Chairman Carol Rehak said. “The Market has come so far since 2009. It wouldn’t be the success that it is without our dedicated board, market manager, vendors and community for their support. Downtown South Milwaukee is becoming a popular destination and we are really excited about this season.”
The market runs from 3 to 7 p.m. every Thursday at 11th Avenue and Milwaukee Avenue in South Milwaukee’s city center. It features dozens of vendors selling produce, organics, arts, crafts, baked goods and more. A variety of prepared foods will also be available for dinner. Come for the shopping, stay for dinner and the live music.
Weekly live music is booked for the market stage, including several special concerts presented by the South Milwaukee Performing Arts Center. Among the other events scheduled are the return of the popular market Health Fair on Sept. 10 and the Fall Family Festival to end the season.
The market runs every Thursday May 28th through October 8. For safety reasons, the market will temporarily move one block west for the popular July 23rd Evening on the Avenue Street Festival.
Stall space is almost sold out, and a waiting list is being formed. The market focus is vendors who make, bake or grow their own produce or merchandise. Applications are available on the market website. Cost is $300 per stall for the entire season, or $25 per week.
“We have an outstanding lineup of local vendors, and we’re proud to have many of our longtime merchants returning in 2015,” said market co-founder and South Milwaukee City Clerk Jim Shelenske. “But we’re always trying to deliver new experiences for our customers. We want to provide something for everyone at the market, and we do.”
