They're The Last IKEA Holdouts — And They're Not Moving
Retail pushing out existing families and neighborhoods in Suburban Milwaukee is nothing new, but wait until you hear this one in Oak Creek.

OAK CREEK, WI — Take W. Drexel west off I-94 in Oak Creek on your way to the new IKEA and you'll likely drive past the home of Amanda Schmidt-Maughan and her husband Ryan Maughan.
According to a report from the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the couple, who lives on the 1800 block of W. Drexel Ave. are the last remaining holdouts in an area right in front of the new Swedish home furnishings megastore.
Retail pushing out existing families and neighborhoods in Suburban Milwaukee is nothing new, but in this case, Schmidt-Maughan, said Northwestern Mutual offered her and her husband a premium over the market value of their property as a residence, but nowhere close to what the land will fetch down the line when people realize it's high-traffic real estate with commercial appeal, the Journal Sentinel reported.

The gap? Oak Creek says their property is worth just over $400,000 right now. Northwestern Mutual has offered between $500,000 and $600,000. The family's asking price is $1.9 million.
