Water Main Break Snares Elderly Driver: Police

The responding officer reported that the water main break was "pretty bad" and that the road in that area was bowed.

OAK CREEK, WI — Oak Creek police went out to the intersection of E. Puetz Road and S. Chicago Road on a report of a water main break just after 10 a.m. on Jan. 31.

According to police reports, an eyewitness reported that a brown liquid was coming out of the ground and running into the street, flooding the street.

The responding officer reported that the water main break was "pretty bad" and that the road in that area was bowed.

The Water Department was notified and sent repair crews to the area. Officers remained on-scene until the situation was under control. The water utility set out barrels to mark where the trouble areas were in the roadway.

According to reports, about two hours later an older man driving a brown minivan became stuck in the road at the location of the water main break.

When police went back to the scene, they learned that a good Samaritan pulled the man's vehicle from the intersection. When asked what happened, the man told police that he became confused by the barrels.
