Woman Coming Home From Work Crashes After Falling Asleep: Report

Police found a woman slumped over the wheel when they arrived on-scene.

OAK CREEK, WI -- An Oak Creek woman who was reportedly extremely tired got a surprise visit from police after she failed to realize that she fell asleep behind the wheel and woke up in the middle of an accident scene.

According to Oak Creek police reports, officers responded to the 7000 block of S. 6th Street just after 6 a.m. on Sep. 15 on a report of a one-vehicle accident.

When police arrived on the scene, they found that a woman driving a black Chevrolet Tahoe collided with a light pole and was found slumped over the wheel. When the woman was revived by police, she was surprised to find that she crashed her car and had police respond, according to reports.

When police investigated, they learned the woman showed no signs of impairment other than fatigue. According to reports, she was on her way back home from work at about 4:30 a.m., fell asleep, and slowly crashed into a light pole.

The vehicle was moved into an Oak Creek fire department parking lot and the woman was cited for inattentive driving. Reports indicated she was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
