Oshkosh, Winneconne rally around athletic trainer Dan Gehri after cancer diagnosis (fdlreporter.com) — Oshkosh West athletic trainer Dan Gehri, who also serves Winneconne athletes, is facing glioblastoma, and the Oshkosh community is rallying with fundraisers, donations and emotional support. Local teams, alumni and a cancer foundation are helping his family manage medical costs while he focuses on treatment, time with his daughters, and staying present at games and community events.
2. Caramel Crisp hosts fantasy and romance event Oct. 10 (thenorthwestern.com) — Caramel Crisp Bookstore in downtown Oshkosh is hosting a "Boos and Brews and Romantasy Too" event Oct. 10, featuring a C. Koller book signing and romantasy-themed games. Visitors can browse blind-date books, preorder popular fantasy titles, receive a free clearance book with preorders, and join the Discover Oshkosh Boos and Brews Cider & Seltzer Stroll the same day.
3. Oshkosh police ramp up enforcement ahead of fall Pub Crawl (wbay.com) — Oshkosh police are increasing patrols and enforcement ahead of the unsanctioned fall Pub Crawl near the UW-Oshkosh campus on Oct. 10, citing past weapons-related incidents and disruptive behavior. Residents, students, and property owners are urged to understand nuisance party rules, expect strict enforcement, and carefully screen short-term rentals that might be used for large house parties.
4. New exhibits bring beauty and the Land of Oz to the Oshkosh Public Museum (wtaq.com) — Two major exhibits are now open at the Oshkosh Public Museum, bringing Wizard of Oz artifacts and a large jewelry and gemstone collection to local visitors through March 20, 2027. Residents can explore film memorabilia, original illustrations, and over 200 jewelry pieces, with clear hours and admission prices that make planning a visit easy for families and seniors.
5. Oshkosh narrows name choices for new middle school. See the top picks (thenorthwestern.com) — Oshkosh residents are helping choose a name for the new west-side middle school, with Perry Tipler/South Park, Paul Poberezny, Quarry County Park, and Westside leading the first survey. A district committee will narrow finalists Oct. 8 before a second community survey, with the school board making the final decision in December.
