THU AM News: Recovery.com deploying AI projects as user base grows; Marquette poll finds public skeptical of AI, data centers (wisbusiness.com) — A judge has dismissed the lawsuit challenging Port Washington's tax financing district for the huge Vantage-Oracle-OpenAI data center, clearing the way for $450 million in diverted property taxes to fund infrastructure. City officials say TID No. 5 will pay for major improvements benefiting both the city and town of Port Washington at no direct cost to residents, while Oracle plans to cover extra electric costs tied to the project.
2. Reworked Port Washington Transmission Line Could Be Wisconsin's Costliest Ever (urbanmilwaukee.com) — A multibillion-dollar power line and substation project is being redesigned to serve Oracle's huge new data center campus in Port Washington, potentially becoming Wisconsin's most expensive transmission project ever. Regulators forced American Transmission Co. to reapply after major changes, and consumer advocates are watching closely to ensure local ratepayers don't end up subsidizing the data center's massive electricity needs.
3. Data center transmission line plan moved off artist's Saukville property (regionalmedianews.com) — A key power line for the Port Washington data center will no longer cut across Saukville artist Tom Uttech's land, after a new routing proposal from American Transmission Co. Following legal pressure, planners dropped eminent-domain plans for his 52-acre property, even as the massive, electricity-hungry data center continues to draw backlash and questions about how best to supply it with power.
4. Port Washington football vs. West Bend West on Sept. 18 (jsonline.com) — Port Washington High School hosted West Bend West in a home football matchup Friday night, with Pirates players and students featured throughout a detailed photo gallery. 5. Wisconsin may not have an ocean but its maritime history runs deep. (wtmj.com) — Wisconsin's new Sailing and Maritime Hall of Fame in Manitowoc is celebrating the state's deep water heritage, and one honoree works right out of Port Washington. Yacht designer Bill Prince runs his firm here, creating boats for Great Lakes and beyond, underscoring how Port Washington fits into Wisconsin's broader story of sailing, shipbuilding and marine innovation.
