Port Washington-Saukville educator talks about living abroad (jsonline.com) — A Saukville Elementary specialist who grew up in Port Washington is kicking off the new school year while drawing on formative experiences teaching in Ghana and living in Ireland. 2. Data center size 'is insane' (ozaukeepress.com) — On Port Washington's north side, residents and officials toured a 550,000‑square‑foot data center building that's part of a $15 billion Vantage Data Centers campus, now the largest construction project in Wisconsin. With four buildings totaling 2.5 million square feet for Oracle and OpenAI, thousands of workers on site daily, and completion phases starting in 2027, the project is rapidly reshaping the local landscape.
3. Why does this small Wisconsin town need two lighthouses? Tiffany visits Waukesha (gmtoday.com) — Port Washington residents are hearing their city's massive data center project used as a key example in the governor's race, with Tom Tiffany criticizing potential subsidies and power demands while David Crowley defends local control and strict conditions. During a Waukesha campaign stop, Tiffany outlined plans to cut regulations, scrutinize surveillance cameras, and set tough standards for future data centers statewide.
5. On Janesville's November ballot: an 'anti-development' question (badgerinstitute.org) — Port Washington's voter-approved limits on tax increment financing for big projects are being cited statewide as Janesville weighs a November referendum that could slow a huge redevelopment of its former GM plant. Local leaders warn that requiring citywide votes on very large projects may scare off developers, while activists argue residents deserve a direct say on transformative developments.
