📰 News we're reading

1. Town chips in for fight against Port data center power lines (ozaukeepress.com) — Residents in nearby towns are organizing and funding a fight over where new high‑voltage power lines will run to serve the Vantage data center on Port Washington's north side. A regional coalition is pressing state regulators to keep lines in existing corridors, while the Public Service Commission reviews a revised application that still leaves a route through Fredonia on the table.

2. Data centers drive nonresidential construction spending (dailyreporter.com) — Port Washington is set to host a $15 billion Vantage data center campus expected to draw an enormous 3.5 gigawatts of electricity, reshaping local infrastructure and energy planning. The project is part of a statewide boom in billion‑dollar data centers that's driving construction jobs, new power plants, and rising demand for skilled trades across Wisconsin.

3. 'Not how you should live life': Injured Grafton boy's aunt addresses suspect after $500K bond set (tmj4.com) — An Ozaukee County judge in Port Washington set a $500,000 cash bond for a man accused of a hit‑and‑run that seriously injured an 11‑year‑old Grafton boy. The child remains hospitalized as his family's daily life is upended, while community donations and a GoFundMe help support his recovery ahead of the next court hearing on October 19.

4. Prep Scoreboard – Thursday 10/8/26 (dailydodge.com) — Port Washington hosted a strong night of high school sports, highlighted by BDHS cross-country runners posting multiple personal records and season-best times despite a tough training week. The roundup also includes Thursday's football, volleyball, and soccer scores from around the region, plus a call for college athlete updates from local families.
