—  In Port Washington, the Smith Brothers name comes with a lot of clout and high expectations, and for the 4-year-old Smith Brothers Coffee House, those standards are exceeded.

In the bright and cozy cafe located in the landmark Smith Brothers building, Smith Brothers Coffee House serves up coffee shop classics like lattes and cappuccinos as well as its trademark drink, the King Caramel: espresso, steamed milk and caramel sauce topped with whipped cream.  Barista Jess Burdick said that this drink is perfect “when you’re looking for a really good latte.”

And the innovative staff keeps ahead of the coffee curve.  “We really stay on top of new trends, like matcha [a finely ground green tea] lattes, and using different products,” Burdick said.

Smith Brothers provides patrons with beverages and bakery that all come from local sources like Alterra Coffee and Rishi Tea, both based in Milwaukee.

This local focus is what makes Smith Brothers Coffee House so unique, according to Burdick.  Not only does the café support local companies, but local artists as well.  Artists’ work is displayed throughout the shop and are available for purchase.  Burdick said that this partnership “is really taking off,” and that the café hopes to have more artists and musicians involved in the future.

The locally focussed, on-trend Smith Brothers Coffee House is a must for those craving the perfect cup of joe and an artsy environment in which to enjoy it.  100 N. Franklin St.  262-268-2767.  Open daily.  Coffee drinks from $1.50 to $4.
