Right In Our Own Backyard

We love visitors in Port Washington, and this is why!

Sometimes it takes a visitor to help remind us that we have real treasures right in our own backyard. It’s easy to take Port for granted because we’re here every day.  But travelers tell us we’re special, and they have plenty to say about why Port Washington is a destination.

First and foremost is beautiful Lake Michigan, and our downtown sits right on it. Expansive, accessible, and almost ocean-like, the lake is a draw for boaters and fisherman alike. Port is fortunate to have a thriving charter fishing trade, with a reputation that proceeds itself.  We draw clientele from many surrounding communities, and “Chicago-land” as well. The folks from Illinois seem especially enamored with Port.

First-time visitors often remark that Port Washington is a friendly town, with charming old-fashioned appeal. Flora Larson, senior sales consultant at Zing Boutique, loves to chat with vacationers because they’re always so positive about their time in Port. “Especially with visitors from out-of-state, I hear comments about Port being like a step back in time, where neighborly attitudes are prevalent and everyone is helpful,” says Flora.  Others have explained that they appreciate that prices in the restaurants and retail establishments are moderate and affordable. Parents with children have remarked that Port is safe, clean, and well-maintained, according to Flora.

It’s also been noted that Port has interesting history and attractive old buildings, making it fun for walking, biking, and exploring. Being an avid walker, Flora is quick to share her favorite places to see, and visitors are grateful for the information.

We have much to be proud of, much to share, right here in our own town. Your Shop Port, Think Local friends wish you a Happy Spring in your own backyard!
