Save Homs: Social Media Helps Get the Word Out
It's a small step and a simple request, but something must be done.

I have a simple request. As many are aware, the third largest city in Syria — Homs — is under attack by its own leader. The military have the perimeter closed down and have been shelling it daily for quite some time. Five thousand plus people have been killed ... mostly civilians.
Here is a link to the recent status detailing the death of two very brave western journalists who lost their lives there trying to document this carnage.
This image, of a military entirely surrounding one of the cities in its own country, recalls Warsaw and the Jewish Ghetto there during WW2. This is an horiffic show of cruelty and despotism and it must end.

The United Nations is drafting an ultimatum to Assad, the President of Syria, but I believe we can take a stand as well; in fact, other efforts by the UN have not succeeded on occasion or have taken too much time to work.
Can we all Facebook or Twitter the single statement "Save Homs" to everyone we know as well as to our representatives. This is a moral outrage and silence suggests that rulers can get away with these sorts of things with impunity.

It may seem like a small action. However, if I were cowering in the basement of a bombed out home in my city, I would hope to God that someone was telling people about it ... so give it a thought and and action.
Assad has gone way too far here. These people are not his enemy and do not deserve to die.
I am going to make a small sign, on an index card, saying Save Homs. I am going to photograph it and put it on as my Facebook profile photo until the shelling stops. It is a drop in the bucket, but you can help fill the bucket if you do likewise.
