Shop Port, Think Local: Vines to Cellar

For the next several weeks the Shop Port, Think Local blog wants to introduce you to some of our local businesses. We want to spotlight a new business each week and show you something that makes them special.

winery has been in downtown Port Washington going on 4 years now. After years of making and enjoying beer and wine at home, CJ and I (Jim Wirsching-Neuser) decided to find a way to turn that love and hobby into a business.  After visiting several wine stores like ours in 2007 we took the plunge and started the long process of opening Vines to Cellar.

In July 2008, we opened our small batch winery just selling beer- and wine-making supplies while waiting for our winery permits to come through.  After more time then we had expected we were able to start selling the wines that we produce in November of 2008.

We produce over 40 different wines and can find a wine for everyone.  Part of what we enjoy about our business is being able to help educate people about wine and the wine making.  Having people come in and be able to taste the wines, helping them select a wine that they will enjoy. One of the unique things we do at Vines to Cellar is what we call U-Vin, others call it bottle-on-premises. You can come into our winery and be part of making your very own batch of wine.  We give you a wine-making basics on your first visit and you do the filling, corking and put on your own custom label. What a fun way to give that special gift or just get to know how the wine is made.
