Port Police Report: Roasted Squirrel Mistaken for Tree Fire

Humans are apparently not the only ones suffering through the heat and drought in Port Washington.

Conditions are ripe for a fire, though when residents thought they spotted one last week, they were sadly mistaken.

Residents of 1001 Hales Trail called 911 about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday after noticing what they believed to be a tree fire on their property. When police and fire authorities arrived, however, they found the smoldering remains of an electrocuted squirrel.

The matter was referred to WE Energies.

• Don't get mad! Call the cops: Residents at Greystone and Brian Court probably resented that legendary "cling" last Tuesday when they reported vandalism about 6:30 a.m. on their property. Their vehicles were reportedly vandalized with car chalk, and both their mailboxes and cars were Saran-wrapped. No suspects were listed.

• Dumpster fire scare: Two 13-year-old Port Washington girls were cited last Tuesday around 4:30 p.m. near , 206 N. Franklin St. The girls had lit a small fire near the dumpsters behind the bank.

• A hungry artist: Workers at , 1407 W. Grand Ave., didn't appreciate a customer's artwork, so to speak, as they called police about 3 p.m. Wednesday to report property damage. An unknown subject reportedly was painting blue swirls on the Culver's drive-thru speaker box. No suspects were listed.
