Port Washington Named one of Wisconsin's 10 Safest Cities
Research group ranked 132 Wisconsin Communities based on crime data - and Port Washington is one of the safest. What do you think?

PORT WASHINGTON -- You may be surprised when you see which communities are at the top - and the bottom - of the list.
A report compiled by Homesnacks.net, a group that studies public information to reveal social trends, ranked Wisconsin communities based on a variety of FBI crime metrics.
Those metrics included: Violent crimes per capita (murders, assaults, rapes, armed robberies), Property crimes per capita (thefts, burglaries, motor vehicle thefts) and total crimes per capita.

Rankings were based on 2014 statistics, and each town was assigned a "crime score" — the lower, the better. They ranked each place for each criteria from 1 to 132 where 1 in any particular category is the safest.
Next, they averaged each places three criteria to create a Safety Index. They crowned the place with the lowest overall Safety Score "The Safest Place In Wisconsin".

The safest city, based on population, is Oconomowoc. The most dangerous? Milwaukee, where residents had a 1 in 1059 chance of being the victim of a crime.
