Road Trip to Saukville

Dozens of classic car owners assembled at the Schmit Bros. Dealership Saturday to show off their prides and joys.

Some came to show, some came to look, and some came to buy and sell at the Schmit Bros. Dealership at 925 E. Green Bay Rd. in Saukville.

Many owners had spent over 10 years restoring their cars.

"Once you've started, there's no way out. You just keep going," Neil Paton, who spent 12 years working on his car, said.

Paton, who came from Hubertus, said he spent every day of his summers, and weekends year-round working on his Ford car. He brought a photo album that documented the work he had done to show interested spectators and owners.

"It's a labor of love," he said. "It keeps me out of mischief."

Organized by the Classic Thunderbird Club of Wisconsin, and sponsored by Ford, the show's profits benefitted Children's Hospital of Wisconsin.

Dan Schafer, former president of the Thunderbird Club, said they have been organizing shows for 20 years, and this was the second year at the Schmit Bros. Dealership. This year is the dealership's 99th anniversary.
