Last summer my Father In Law went in for what was supposed to be a routine out-patient surgical procedure. 9 weeks later he finally left the hospital but life as he knew it would never be the same. Last summer was suppose to be his "retirement year". He had plans of spending the summer on the lake fishing and spending time with his 13 grandchildren. Instead, he spent the summer fighting for his life, learning how to walk again with a prosthetic leg, and finding the strength everyday to adjust and cope with his new reality. His journey has been a life lesson for everyone in our family. He has been a living example of courage, strength and humility. We all feel so blessed to still have him in our lives this Father's Day. It is my hope that this summer, he can re-capture his "year of retirement" dreams and begin to experience them...he is someone that truly has earned and deserves it!
