Today's riddle: What do you call a one-legged Big Foot? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. October Senior Dining Meal Program (gazettextra.com) — Shawano-area seniors can plan their October lunches now, with weekday meals offered in Shawano and rotating service in Bowler, Birnamwood, Wittenberg, and Tigerton. The county's senior dining program features a changing daily menu, from chili and spaghetti to baked chicken and soups, and encourages residents to call the Shawano or Wittenberg numbers for details or reservations.
2. Juror Questionnaires Sent Out in Shawano-Menominee County for 2027 (tchdailynews.com) — If you live in Shawano or Menominee County and just received a juror questionnaire, it's only the first step in building the 2027 jury pool, not a summons. Officials are asking residents to complete and return the form or submit it online, stressing that participation is a key civic duty even though most people will never actually serve on a jury.
3. Shawano School District Points to Strong Start as September Wraps Up (tchdailynews.com) — Students and staff in the Shawano School District are off to a strong start this school year, with Superintendent Kurt Krizan praising respectful behavior and solid effort across all buildings. He says new staff are already building strong relationships with students, and the positive momentum in Shawano classrooms is giving the district confidence as September wraps up.
4. Renard departs school board, leaving vacancy (newmedia-wi.com) — A seat has opened on the Shawano School Board after member Tim Renard moved out of the district, and local residents from Area III can now apply. If you live in the Town of Wescott or the eligible part of the Town of Washington, are at least 18, and a U.S. citizen, you can file a declaration of interest at the Shawano district office by Oct. 19.
5. Shawano High School holds ribbon-cutting ceremony for campus improvements (wearegreenbay.com) — Shawano High School just unveiled major campus renovations funded by a 2024 referendum, adding security upgrades, new program-supporting spaces, and modern collaboration areas for students. A ribbon-cutting and open house marked the opening, and another event is planned next month to showcase the school's upgraded auditorium, giving Shawano families more chances to see the improvements firsthand.
