16-Year-Old Shorewood iBook Air Thief Caught At Apple Store

A 16-year-old boy from Shorewood thought he could get away with stealing another person's iBook Air at the Jewish Community Center.

SHOREWOOD, WI — A 16-year-old boy from Shorewood thought he could get away with stealing another person's iBook Air at the Jewish Community Center, until authorities caught up with the suspect at the local Apple store, police said.

Whitefish Bay police responded to the Jewish Community Center, 6255 N. Santa Monica Blvd. for a theft report. just before 4:30 p.m. on Sep. 24.

The apparent victim told police that sometime between 2:08 and 4:20 p.m., unknown suspect stole his Apple Mac Book Air from an unlocked gym locker. The victim provided a description of a suspect who was watching him, and acting suspiciously in the locker room, according to police reports.

Police then responded to the Apple Store at Bayshore Mall after the computer "pinged" there. Surveillance footage showed the suspect, a 16-year-old boy from Shorewood, matching the description bringing a Mac Book Air into the store to be reset, reports indicated.

Police made contact with the boy, who confessed to stealing the computer. He was transported to the police station, booked, cited and released to his parents.
