After Exactly 100 Years, Hayek's Pharmacy Says Goodbye

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 Hayek's Pharmacy in Shorewood ends its 100-year anniversary at the corner of E. Capitol Drive and N. Downer Ave.

SHOREWOOD, WI β€” The final shots of WWI had yet to be fired when Hayek Drugs opened its doors to customers back in 1918.

On Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2018 Hayek's Pharmacy in Shorewood ends its 100-year anniversary at the corner of E. Capitol Drive and N. Downer Ave.

Owner Bill Quandt spoke with OnMilwaukee back in 2011 for a profile of the legacy business. In the interview, he said "he was uncertain of the long-term status of the corner drugstore, but that 'I think we'll be able to stick around for a while. At least until our 100-year anniversary in 2018.'"

According to OnMilwaukee, Hayek's will close for inventory on Wednesday and will re-open for one final day on Thursday, before passing into the mists of history like Oriental Drugs and the Brady Street Pharmacy.
