Westees Morning Minutes — Business as Usual in Shorewood
Coffee talk yields some questions about what's going on in the village.
Over our morning coffee on Monday, we were discussing current issues in our little village.
One member of our group brought up the status concerning the . As we got deeper into the subject it was disclosed that the only place the position is being advertised is on the village's website.
This seems to be rather a strange means for recruiting unless the chief already has someone in mind and the fix is in.

With so many law enforcement people available with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s recent layoffs, we thought we could have the “pick of the litter” and really get a high performer.
However, checking with some other people who I personally know in the Sheriff’s Department and people in the Milwaukee Police Department, none of them knew about this position. It seems that there are a number of sites that advertise for law enforcement and nothing has appeared concerning the open position.

Also, we were discussing if the chief was planning to promote one of the current lieutenants, but that seems not to be the case since none of the current lieutenants meet the minimum requirement of having five years or longer in a position of lieutenant or higher.
Therefore, it means the new deputy chief must come from the outside, which makes it even more of a mystery why there wouldn’t be wider recruitment.
One other issue came up during our “coffee swill”; it seems that the Village Engineer Mustafa Emir left Bonestroo some months ago and joined the firm of Clark Dietz as a senior project engineer.
There is an . However, there is only one problem; Clark Dietz is getting all the village contract bids. We’re wondering if there isn’t some conflict of interest going on here.
