Shorewood Schools Community Conversation – Energy Efficiency Projects

On behalf of the Shorewood School Board, you are invited to a community conversation on Monday, December 3rd at 7pm in High School Library.  The topic is replacement and financing of the High School and possibly Atwater Boilers.

Shorewood School District is proposing to replace the High School and/or Atwater boilers as part of a comprehensive energy efficiency project.  The cost of the boiler project is approximately three million dollars.  The financing is allowable, without referendum, due to recent changes in Wisconsin Statutes.  The changes, approved by the Legislature in 2009, allows districts to raise local property taxes above limits set by the state as long as the money pays for energy conservation projects.

The purpose of the community conversation is to gather input and feedback about entering into this level of financing without referendum.   At this meeting, Board Members and Administration will present an overview of the project, financial impact to the community and rationale for moving forward.
