In 1917, the Village's name was officially changed to "Shorewood" to more accurately reflect the environment that attracted business and professional people who built substantial homes outside the city but convenient to city resources.

Shorewood has become recognized for its community resources and was selected by AARP to become an Age-Friendly Community because of its walk-able streets; neighborhood connections, access to key services, and opportunities for residents young and old to participate in civic and community activities.
