Historic Decisions Expected from Wisconsin Supreme Court Thursday

Decisions on same-sex registries, voter ID and labor rights are expected on Thursday. What are the ramifications for Wisconsin?

Note: While our contribution interface is temporarily down (it will come back soon!) Patch Reader Bob McBride reached out to us and asked if this discussion starter could be posted for the three major decisions expected by the Wisconsin Supreme Court on Thursday, July 31.

The decisions relate to Act 10, a controversial labor law that restricted union negotiating rights and led to the recall of Gov. Scott Walker; whether the voter ID law is constitutional and if the state can run registries for same sex-partners to get benefits similar to a marriage.

The Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel has a thorough breakdown of the issues if you need to get up to speed.

McBride said β€œWhile Patch is patching itself back together, one of their staff was kind enough to put this here for us to use as a place to discuss the implications and ramifications of any or all.”

The truth is McBride is the kind one, for looking out for his fellow readers to get this posted.
