"The Journey" featured at IndependenceFirst
IndependenceFirst will host “The Journey,” a traveling art exhibit curated by the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts/VSA that features the work of emerging artists with disabilities ages 16 – 25. On July 24, IndependenceFirst will host a Gallery Night reception from 5 to 9 p.m. with a 7 p.m. artist talk featuring Jason Wellington, one of the artists whose work is included in the exhibition.
From hand cut paper to photography to burnt canvas, the artists featured in “The Journey” use diverse media to tackle a wide range of subjects including identity, relationships, disability and social issues.
“The Journey” is the 13th exhibition presented by VSA through the VSA Emerging Young Artists Program. VSA is a Jean Kennedy Smith Arts and Disability program of the John F. Kennedy Center for Performing Arts, with sponsorship from Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. Local sponsorship generously provided by Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield.
