Man, 24, Survives 120-Foot Fall From Hoan Bridge: Report

A deputy below the bridge using her squad spotlight was able to find the man, who was remarkably found both alive and conscious.

MILWAUKEE, WI — Officials in Milwaukee County say that a man attempting to jump to his death early Wednesday morning ended up surviving his fall from 120 feet.

According to Milwaukee County Sheriff's officials, Wednesday morning at about 3:40 a.m., deputies responded to a call about a man outside his vehicle looking over the railing of the Hoan Bridge on northbound I-794.

Officials said a deputy was nearby, and arrived within several minutes, finding the man on the other side of the railing standing on a bridge support. The man jumped before the deputy could engage him in conversation.

Deputies called for Milwaukee Fire Department and Coast Guard personnel to respond. A deputy below the bridge using her squad spot light was able to find the man, who was remarkably found both alive and conscious. Milwaukee Fire Department personnel stabilized the 34-year-old man and he was transported to Froedtert Hospital for treatment of a broken neck.

According to Suicide.org, there are a number of 24-hour crisis lines that people can call in the event of an emergency.
