
Lubavitch of Wisconsin will present The Rohr Jewish Learning Instituteβs (JLI) newest course Life in the Balance: Jewish Perspectives on Life IssuesΒ beginning the week of October 21st and run for 6 consecutive weeks at the following locations: Chabad of Waukesha, Lubavitch House on Milwaukeeβs East Side, The Shul Center in Bayside and The Peltz Center for Jewish Life in Mequon.Β Continuing Education Credits are available for medical professionals, lawyers, and dentists.
βAt some point or another, everyone faces an extremely difficult medical decision that they may not be equipped to handle,β said Rabbi Zalman Abraham of JLIβs headquarters in Brooklyn, New York. βOur objective with this course is to acquaint the public with fascinating Jewish perspectives on some of the most cutting-edge dilemmas in medical ethics.β
In Life in the Balance, participants will examine ethical questions and explore Jewish perspectives about a variety of topics ranging from preventative health measures to end of life issues and the appropriate respect due the body after death. Discussion will include: Must we prolong life at the expense of immense suffering? Should we legalize compensation for organs to save the lives of those on the transplant list? And where do we draw the line between keen vigilance to safeguard oneβs health and pointless panic? The course will also explore ethical ramifications of fascinating new technologies such as digital autopsies, and uterine transplants.

Like all JLI programs, Life in the Balance is designed to appeal to people at all levels of Jewish knowledge, including those without any prior experience or background in Jewish learning. The course is accredited to offer 30 AMA PRA Category 1 CME credits for medical professionals, 10 CLE credits for attorneys and AGD PACE credits for dentists.Β
