Newborn Pronounced Dead inside Milwaukee County Jail early Thursday
Milwaukee Sheriff is reporting that "the inmate had not notified anyone that she was going into labor."

MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee County Sheriff's detectives are investigating an incident in which a newborn was pronounced dead after its mother gave birth inside the special needs section of the Milwaukee County jail.
According to the Sheriff's Office, the mother was discovered holding her baby during a routine housing unit inspection by a correctional officer early Thursday.
According to information released by the Sheriff's Department, the inmate had not notified anyone that she was going into labor.

The Milwaukee County Sheriff's office reported the following events in order:
- Milwaukee Fire Department emergency personnel and jail medical staff responded to the scene.
- The baby was pronounced dead.
- The inmate was transported to the hospital.
The newborn's cause of death will be determined by an autopsy.
