#NoPromises Campaign: Will Millionaire Mary Burke Promise to Repeal Act 10?

[Madison, Wis.] – Millionaire Mary Burke has kicked off her “no promises” campaign, refusing to take a stand on the issues that matter most to Wisconsin. In fact, the only promise Burke will make is “no promises.” In an ongoing series of issues that will be important to voters, the Republican Party of Wisconsin asks Mary Burke her position on Act 10.

When Governor Walker first took office, he made the tough, but prudent, decisions needed to balance the budget and put Wisconsin’s fiscal house in order. As part, Walker and Republicans put in place several reforms – known as Act 10 – that helped balance our state’s finances and put the power back into the hands of the hard-working taxpayers. Successes of Act 10 include:

• Governor Walker’s reforms reduced government spending while providing more flexibility for services that are needed, giving local governments the tools to apply free-market principles
• Act 10 gave local municipalities and school districts the tools to keep costs low while helping to deliver services and a world-class education to students across the state
• Act 10 reforms have already saved Wisconsin taxpayers billions – and counting
• Act 10 helped to keep teachers and state workers on the job, and did away with the furloughs that the failed Doyle Administration forced on public employees

Governor Walker gave the power back to the taxpayers of our state by balancing the budget, keeping workers on the job, and returning over one billion in savings and counting.

QUESTIONS FOR MARY BURKE

Running for Governor means outlining your positions and making commitments to voters – with that being said, here are important questions for Burke to answer:

• Would Mary Burke repeal Act 10?  If so, what is her budget plan to fund the huge deficit that would be caused by the repeal?
• How would Mary Burke have solved the $3.6 billion Doyle Deficit if she wouldn’t have supported Act 10? Massive tax increases or spending cuts? If so, what tax hikes or cuts?
• Will Mary Burke take away the freedom that school districts now have to balance their budgets and put more money into the classroom?
