North Shore's Nomination To 'Coolest Thing Made In WI' Contest
Is Wisconsin's coolest thing made in the North Shore? Here is what was nominated from the North Shore and how to vote for it.
GLENDALE, WI β Over 150 things were nominated to the first round of voting for The Coolest Thing Made In Wisconsin contest. The North Shore's contribution: Sprecher Root Beer.
The local soda staple comes from Sprecher's brewery in Glendale. Alongside the company's signature root beer is a host of other sodas and a full lineup of beers. The nomination stands for Sprecher's root beer.
Sprecher brews all of its beverages with fire. The company initially brewed in Milwaukee starting in 1985 but it later moved to its current home in Glendale.

Randy Sprecher founded the company after returning from military service in Germany. On its website, Sprecher Brewing Company boasts itself as one of the first craft breweries in Milwaukee. The beverages are now bought across 20 states.
"Today Sprecher is one of the only breweries in the U.S. that still uses a unique fire-brewing process that caramelizes the flavors to give Sprecherβs craft sodas and beers big bold flavor," its website said.

In recent years, the company also threw its hat in the ring with a series of full-service restaurants, such as the one at Bayshore, but most have since closed.
The root beer hasn't gone away though, so, is it the coolest thing made in Wisconsin? The product will compete against fried chicken, outboard motors, donuts and more in a contest to be named one of Wisconsin's coolest things, according to a news release.
People can vote for Sprecher's root beer at www.madeinwis.com. It will compete against 150 other products made in Wisconsin for a shot at being one of the "Coolest Things Made In Wisconsin."
Votes can be cast once per day. First-round voting ends Sept. 21.
The contest has been going on each year since 2016. It's organized by Wisconsin Manufacturers & Commerce and Johnson Financial Group, according to a news release from organizers.
Click here to vote for the Sprecher root beer on the contest website. The final winner will be announced Oct. 14 after three more voting rounds.
