Rogers Memorial Hospital will be represented at the International OCD Foundation (IOCDF) 20th Annual OCD Conference, which takes place July 19-21, 2013 in Atlanta, Ga. Among the specialists participating will be Bradley C. Riemann, Ph.D., clinical director of the Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Center and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Services; Stephanie Eken, M.D., FAAP, medical director of the Child Center; and David M. Jacobi, Ph.D., behavior specialist and clinical supervisor.
The only national meeting focused solely on OCD and related disorders, the conference is hosted by the IOCDF and features presentations, workshops, seminars and support groups from the world’s recognized thought leaders and specialists in the industry. Rogers’ renowned team will join some of the country’s most experienced and knowledgeable clinicians and researchers at the unique event – where laypeople, patients and therapists alike can benefit.
Dr. Riemann Serves as Presenter and Panelist

One of Rogers’ participating specialists, Dr. Riemann, is a leading expert in the assessment of OCD and anxiety disorders and the use of CBT treatment. On Saturday, July 20, Dr. Riemann will present “How to Do Attention Retraining for OCD,” which will focus on research about using attention retraining programs for fear of contamination and OCD in general. Studies of this method as a stand-alone treatment, as well as in conjunction with typical CBT, will be discussed. A demonstration will also be included. Later in the day, Dr. Riemann will serve as a panelist for “Fun with Exposures… Is It Possible? Using Creativity to Enhance the Exposure Process,” which will demonstrate how using a little creativity and ingenuity can result in a variety of inventive exposures that target difficult beliefs while retaining efficacy of the exposure process. He will also participate as one of the experts on the Q&A panel “Four Psychological Treatment Approaches for OCD,” to answer additional questions about attention retraining.

On Sunday, July 21, Dr. Eken and Dr. Jacobi will present the workshop “Parent University: a Comprehensive OCD-Specific Parenting Program,” which includes information from Rogers’ Parent University program. Recognizing that accommodation among parents of children with OCD is common, Dr. Eken and Dr. Jacobi will present facts from this balanced, empathetic program that includes information about OCD and its treatment, the use of appropriate behavioral management interventions, and strategies to minimize family accommodation and promote healthy relationships between caregivers and their children. Preliminary findings on the program’s results will also be presented.
"This workshop offers access to some of the key information we’re providing to families of our patients at Rogers,” Dr. Eken explained. “We’re hoping that the overview helps parents to reinforce their children’s exposure response prevention treatment, which also reduces the chance for relapse in their children.”
Rogers’ Role in the Industry
Rogers Memorial Hospital is the world’s largest provider of residential OCD and anxiety disorders treatment for children, adolescents and adults. Rogers’ Child & Adolescent Centers are the only ones in the country, and the adult OCD Center is one of only two nationwide. Rogers works closely with the IOCDF for the education, advocacy and treatment of those with OCD and other anxiety disorders. By increasing awareness, the IOCDF and Rogers offer encouragement that treatment is available – even for those with severe OCD.
