Shorewood Police Searching For Christmas Church Fund Robber

Police say the suspect is at large, and that he will try to get into your house by posing as a person collecting money for charity.

SHOREWOOD, WI -- Following a strong-arm robbery Wednesday, police in Shorewood are urging residents not to allow anyone into their home if they do not know the person, and contact the police if they feel the visit is suspicious in nature.

Just after 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Shorewood Police Officers were dispatched to the 4000 block of N. Farwell Ave for a report of a theft credit cards by a suspect.

When police investigated, they learned that a strong-arm robbery took place inside the house. Police say the suspect took the credit cards and fled from the scene just before police arrived in the area.

According to police, the suspect was identified as a suspect in other thefts in Shorewood and in other cities. Police say this suspect has scammed several residents out of money and other items. He has been going door to door soliciting funds for "Victory Church," and uses the name "Detrell". Funds that have been obtained are used for personal items. He is not associated with any church.

Police say the suspect will operate in the following way: He attempts to gain entry by asking if they can use the bathroom, or tries to collect donations for church organizations. He will attempt to take credit cards, purses, and other items if he is allowed inside the residence.

Shorewood police say they are investigating Wednesday's incident, and are forwarding criminal charges to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.
