The Shorewood School District βExceeds Expectationsβ according to the new report card data released by the state's Department of Public Instruction this morning.
As a whole, Shorewood ranked 24th out of 376 districts in the state, while each of the Districtβs schools earned βExceeds Expectationsβ or βSignificantly Exceeds Expectationsβ marks as well.
Atwater Elementary made the biggest gain among all of the Districtβs schools, jumping more than four points from 74.1 to 78.8.
Shorewood High School also increased, from 77.8 to 82.3.
Lake Bluff increased by more than three points from 80.2 to 83.6, moving the school from the βExceeds Expectationsβ to the βSignificantly Exceeds Expectationsβ designation.
Shorewood Intermediate School was the only District school to decrease its scores, falling from 76.6 to 74.4.
βWe are extremely proud of the hard work our students, teachers and staff members do everyday,β Shorewood Superintendent Dr. Marty Lexmond said. βThese report cards give us a baseline that we can build upon as we move forward throughout the school year. Our staff and teachers will review our scores in detail during the coming weeks, and will use them as we plan for success in the future.β
Similar to the School Report Cards, which were released for the first time by the state last year, the District Report cards are based upon four main categories:
β’ Student Achievement: Proficiency in reading and mathematics on state assessments.
β’ Student Growth: Measured by yearβto-Βyear improvements in achievement.
β’ Closing Gaps in performance between specific student groups (comparing English language learners, low-Ββincome students, students with disabilities, and members of a racial or an ethnic group with their peers).
β’ On-ΒTrack and Post-Secondary Readiness is a measurement using reliable predictors of high school graduation and potential post high school success.
Schools and districts are also evaluated on measures of student engagement, including their test participation rates, chronic absenteeism rates, and dropout rates.Β
