Neighbor News

ShorewoodNOW

With the addition of Jeff Rummage, former local Patch editor, and a new commenting system, it might be worth a 2nd look.

Just a note for those who may not be aware of it.

ShorewoodNOW, the local alternative to this dead horse we’ve been beating for half a year now at least, seems to be getting its act together.

The addition of Jeff Rummage, former local Patch editor, means there’s good LOCAL coverage of LOCAL news. In addition, they’re in the process of changing over to the Viafoura commenting system from the troublesome Facebook version MJS products have been using for years.

I hadn’t checked out the pages in awhile. I was aware Jeff was working there, but things kind of got off to a slow start, with some personnel shuffling that was going on. It now appears that things are starting to settle down and they’re starting to realize they need to upgrade a bit in order to develop any kind of community.

This could be, in part, due to the new editor at MJS, as well as its impending merger with Scripps. There have been some changes in the works in terms of the OL versions of the JS as well.

So if you haven’t been there for awhile either, you might want to give it a second look:

One article of interest (to me at least) over there referred to efforts on the part of the guy who pushed Joe the barber into early retirement to do the same to the gal who runs Waxwing. Apparently he hit a home run with the Draft & Vessel thing (go figure - maybe the demise of the Village Pub helped in that regard?) and is anxious to expand into the remainder of the store front space he owns (she’s his tenant).

Due to community pressure, he’s going to let her stay there one more year while she decides what her next step is.

Kind of ironic in that, when discussion here of his pushing Joe out to pasture early was going on, she jumped in to deny that was the case and defend the guy who’s doing the same to her now. What goes around, comes around, I guess...

That’s it, other than mentioning that they do encourage blogging over there. Not the greatest system, but it might provide better and more appropriate exposure for some who’ve faithfully provided content for this place in return for no local attention, but lots of promises and happy talk about professional editors and salespeople.
