A Sober Seder for Recovering Alcoholics
Chabad invites those in recovery to join a non-alcholic seder dinner.
Few Jewish holidays evoke the same warm sentiments as Passover. Memories of family and friends gathered as the four questions asked and the Matzah served, all contribute to Passover’s popularity in the Jewish community. There is one segment of the Jewish community who find Passover to be a difficult time: recovering alcoholics. To include Jews in recovery in the holiday celebrations, Chabad of the East Side is inviting all Jews in recovery and their families to participate in a Sober Seder. The Seder will take place on Friday, April 22, at 8:00 pm at Chabad of the East Side, 3030 East Kenwood Boulevard.
The Seders take participants through the wondrous liberation of our ancestors from Egyptian bondage, while sharing the relevance and beauty of the age old festival in our modern lives. Included in the Seder will be a user friendly service, delectable catered dinner paired handmade round 'Shmurah' Matzah, and plenty of grape juice to go around.
“Passover is not simply a celebration of the historic liberation of an ancient people,” said Rabbi Lein of Chabad of the East Side. “Passover is about our own personal liberation - physically, emotionally and spiritually. Passover inspires us to break free from the shackles restraining us from reaching new heights - in our lives, relationships and connection with G-d. Which group of people can better relate to this concept of freedom than those in recovery?"
